IDIA M.M.U.G. members showcased experimental audio creation with the use of potatoes.  Using electricity generated by a chemical reaction within a potato, M.M.U.G. members were able to sample the voltage and use the information to drive various analog synthesis processes.

The Muncie Max Users Group performed at the Downtown First Thursday event at the BSU Mitchell Place Studios.  The performance encouraged public interaction which sparked interest in people of all ages. 

The IDIA Seminar has begun work on a project that involves the Ball State Museum of Art. The project will focus on scanning various sculptures and virtually recreating their original settings.

We had a great response at Siggraph Asia this year.  The art piece was utilized quite heavily as it was the only wireless hotspot in our side of the building.  Even the Singaporean Minister of Technology came by to talk about the work.  

On Friday, Dec 5, members of the IDIA will be traveling to Singapore to showcase the project [un]wired at the SIGGRAPH Asia Conference 2008. This four day conference will feature creative, scientific, and educational work that provokes thought and explores ideas in innovative ways.

On Tuesday, Dec 2nd, WISH TV will be premiering a story featuring the IDIA and its use of Second Life in the Las Americas project. The project was a collaboration with the College of Architecture and Planning as well as over 100 students from 10 countries from around the world. The story will premier during the 11pm news.

On Monday, Nov 10th, John Fillwalk will be presenting at the Virtual Worlds in Education Conference held by East Carolina University. His presentation, “Digital Cinema Arts in the Virtual World” will take place at 12:00pm virtually through Second Life.

On Friday October 31st, the IDIA will continuing the Brown Bag Lunch series with a presentation by Maura Jasper who is an Assistant Professor of Art at Ball State University. The event will take place at noon in the Atrium Studio Gallery. All are welcome and encouraged to bring their lunch.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5th, John Fillwalk will be presenting "The Aesthetic Camera: Virtual Learning in Cinematography via Second Life" for the NMC Rock the Academy symposium. The symposium will take place virtually through Second Life and Fillwalk will be presenting at 2:00 - 2:45 PT.

Members of the IDIA will be traveling to Savannah, Georgia to participate in the International Digital Media Arts Association conference which will be taking place Nov. 5-8th. The IDIAA will be presenting student work as well as a paper presentation from John Fillwalk and Jesse Allison about their work "Bridging Virtual Worlds: Approaches to Mixed Reality Performance with Second Life".

On Thursday October 23rd, the IDIA will be participating the Tech 4U event which will be taking place in Bracken Library from 10am-6pm. The Institute will be showcasing both faculty and staff works as well as hosting a presentation by Larry Johnson the CEO of the New Media Consortium.

On Saturday October 11th, Jesse Allison and members of the IDIA will be performing at the Society of Composers Inc. Student Nation Convention. The performance will be held in Sursa Hall at 8pm and will feature the piece 'Traversal' for organ, computer and Second Life.

IDIA works will be on display the first Thursday of each month from 5-8 PM at the BSU Mitchell Place Studio in Downtown Muncie. All are welcome to attend this open house to see what is new with the Institute.

This Tuesday, September 16th, the IDIA seminar will be traveling to the Biomechanics Laboratory to investigate the motion capture system. This system will provide extensive motion data which will allow students to create extremely accurate animations.

The Muncie Max Users Group, code name M.M.U.G, will be having there first meeting on Friday, September 12th. The group will be focusing on creating performance based sonic and visual art throughout the local community.

The Music Technology department will be hosting an electronic music concert, EM|One, on Tuesday, September 23rd at 8:00pm in Sursa Hall. The concert will feature members of the IDIAA performing music remotely through Second Life for a live audience located in Sursa Hall.

On Friday September 5th, the IDIA will be participating in the Immersive Learning Showcase located in Recital Hall. They will be showcasing current projects such as Biotown, State Fair kiosk and current Second Life installations.

As of Thursday, August 7th, John Fillwalk will be attending the Vision 2020 conference located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The conference is focusing on the exponential growth of digital technologies and what it means to be a digital campus.

Starting on Wednesday August 6th, IDIA will be showcasing an interactive display in the Ball State Backyard located at the Indiana State Fair. The installation features Ball State events and success stories. The installation will run through August 17th.

On Wednesday July 29, John Fillwalk and Phil Repp will be attending the Campus Technology Conference located in Boston to accept the Campus Technology Innovators award for the IDIAA 2nd LIfe project. Fillwalk will also be presenting the project 'UnWired' which was a collaboration between FIllwalk, Keith Kothman and Jesse Allison.

The IDIA is being featured at the Blackboard World 08 Conference in Las Vegas on July 15th, with a presentation from the IDIA's director John Fillwalk. He will be presenting the project "the Aesthetic Camera" which won the first Blackboard Greenhouse Grant for Virtual Awards.

On July 15, at 7:00pm the Ball State University Alumni Association will reach out beyond the limits of Indiana and the United States as they host their next event in SecondLife, presenting the Academy Award winning HBO documentary Baghdad Hospital: Inside the Red Zone. Students are currently finishing up their work on a 3D visualization for the Governor's Biotown USA Project.
